The diameter of the pot or planter should be at least three times the size of the root system. The absolute minimum for a young plant is 40 cm in diameter. We recommend that you use large planters that can withstand the different weather conditions outside. The recommended materials are: ceramic, clay, composite wood, concrete or brick. Bamboo does not tolerate standing water, so provide your bamboos with good drainage. At the bottom of each pot or planter, add a layer of gravel, sand or pebbles which will make drainage easier.

Go for the species and take their preferences into account - some require a lot of light, others thrive best in partial shade. Not all bamboo species are very hardy. Fargesia Jumbo and Fargesia Rufa are two cold tolerant bamboo species. Thus, even in winter, there will be greenery on the terrace and in front of the window.
