The city of Dijon embarked on Thursday July 4, 2019 in the construction of its future International City of Gastronomy and Wine. The project, scheduled for the end of 2021, will represent a Burgundian version of the UNESCO listing of the “gastronomic meal of the French” as a World Heritage Site in November 2010.

The future Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin in Dijon is scheduled for the end of 2021

The amount of the project is estimated at 250 million euros, of which a little more than fifteen financed by the city and the metropolis, the Region or the State. The concept combines the rehabilitation of historic buildings and new constructions on the site of the former Dijon general hospital, which closed in April 2015. The project will be completed three years behind the initial date. The work, which is currently underway on the housing part, should generate some 600 jobs according to the municipality. The city of gastronomy and wine will host exhibition spaces, a 4-star hotel of the Curio by Hilton brand, a branch of the prestigious Ferrandi cooking school and another of the wine school of the Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Burgundy. The site will also host an eco-neighborhood of 500 housing units (the first inhabitants of which are expected for the first half of 2020), residences for tourists, students and seniors, 90 renovated housing units, two cinemas and shops over nearly 5,000m2.
