Recently, a 19-year-old American woman suddenly woke up to a burn to her neck from her laptop charger. In severe pain and panicked, she removed the metal collar she was wearing and went to the emergency room. Fortunately, the burn was the only symptom she had when she arrived.
The young woman later told doctors that the charger wire was under her pillow, was connected to a socket but her smartphone was not charging. The experts therefore concluded that contact between the metal collar and the end of the charger allowed the passage of electric current, which caused the injury.
It is becoming clear, moreover, that this type of accident is not at all rare and that it presents a great risk to health because it can cause not only a burn but also an electric shock. Doctors insist on high-quality laptop chargers.
