The Amazon rainforest has been burning for weeks, a real global drama that requires immediate action. Called the green lung of the planet and threatened with deforestation, the Amazon has around 390 billion trees and is home to 16,000 species while producing 20% of the Earth's oxygen. Many public figures reacted to this sad spectacle, including the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron.

For information, more than 72,000 fires have been observed since the start of the year, says the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), which is 83% more than in 2018. Although this increase is partly due to drought, deforestation remains the main reason.

Several celebrities and politicians were quick to express their sad feelings and thoughts on social networks while at the same time pushing the authorities to act. Shocking videos and photos of the burning Amazon rainforest flood Facebook and Instagram, along with messages of hope and invitations to action.

The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, also posted a moving message on his Twitter account describing the situation as an "international crisis". The statesman even mentioned the imminent meeting of G7 members in Biarritz where the problem will be discussed.
