But how about joining your little one on the evening of October 31 with a matching costume to wow everyone? So, don't delay and find out how to make a homemade mermaid costume! And to do this, you will need the following material:

• Spandex fabric with fish scale print (182 cm)

• Shiny stretch knit for mum's skirt (91 cm)

• Nude-colored bodysuit for mum and baby

• Glittery iron-on fabric

• Pink wig for mum

• Straight pins and cloth scissors

• Roll of kraft paper

• 2.54 cm long

elastic • Foam roller (2.54 cm long) for making the fishtail

To recreate your little girl's mermaid costume, first lay your baby on kraft paper and trace around her body by drawing a fishtail at the bottom of the stencil. Cut out. The height of the skirt is up to you. Then fold the spandex fabric in half, lay the template on it and cut the shape. Then, sew the edges of the folded fabric, as shown above, adding a seam allowance of 1.27 cm and leaving the top open (to insert the elastic).

Once everything has been sewn, place the tail on the foam and trace its outlines using a black felt as shown in the last image. Then cut the tail about 2 cm smaller than the outlines.

Turn the upper part over and sew around the edge, leaving a 5 cm opening to add the elastic. Then thread the latter and sew the loop. Leave the baby's skirt aside and take care of yours!

To make mom's skirt, take the shiny knit and repeat the same steps. Don't forget to insert the elastic! Opt for a length just at the level of the knees so that you can add the fishtail whose design will be more different than that of the baby. In short, the model should look like a pencil skirt.

To create the lower part of the skirt, take the fish scale effect fabric and cut a circle in the middle of 24 cm in diameter. Then sew the two parts of the skirt together, as shown in the example above. To complete the look, draw the outlines of two seashells on the iron-on glitter fabric and cut out. Apply them to the nude body with a simple blow of an iron. There you have it, your homemade mermaid costume is ready!
