And chia seeds are no exception! Packed with healthy goodies and tiny in size, they're perfect to incorporate into smoothies, yogurt parfaits, and countless healthy desserts. Chia seeds, scientifically named Salvia hispanica, originated in Mexico and were an important food source for the Aztecs as well as for many Mexican peoples. They cultivated them for many benefits including endurance and vigor of the spirit. According to some findings, Salvia hispanica was eaten roasted or ground and was considered the third largest plant food source after corn and beans.
The benefits of chia seeds or why incorporate chia water in your daily life?
Whether it's a healthy smoothie, a gourmet dessert or just chia water, these little miracle seeds do not cease to amaze lovers of healthy diets. In addition to being rich in fiber, they are among the most popular anti-fatigue foods. So, let's see in more detail some of the benefits of chia in the following paragraphs.
Chia and the power of fiber: good intestinal health is guaranteed
Very rich in fiber, chia seeds guarantee good intestinal health and help reduce acidity in the stomach. In addition to being beneficial for cholesterol, they are a natural remedy against constipation and help reduce inflammation in the digestive tract. Two tablespoons of chia per day are sufficient for our daily fiber intake.
Chia seed for weight loss: how does it work?
Yes, chia seeds are very small in size but have incredible satiating properties. Thanks to their high protein and fiber content as well as their ability to gain volume in the intestine, they quickly calm hunger. So you feel like you're eating well and have less desire to snack during the day. Indeed, it is the high levels of omega-3 fatty acids and alpha-linoleic acid contained in the seeds, which contribute to weight loss. Forming a kind of gel, chia water takes longer to digest which makes it a great way to lose weight effectively.
Chia water to prevent diabetes and cardiovascular disease
The strong presence of fibers and the gelatinous layer formed by the chia promote the slowing of the assimilation of carbohydrates during digestion. Thus, the blood sugar stabilizes to prevent sudden surges in sugar levels. What's more, there are many sources claiming that increasing fiber intake lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Recent studies show that dietary fiber may play a role in regulating the immune system and inflammation, which may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
High omega-3 content for optimal heart protection
Did you know that chia benefits from an exceptional omega-3 content? This is because it is a much higher rate than that of flax seeds and salmon. Thus, these good fats
promote the regulation of blood pressure and lower triglyceride levels while improving the elasticity of the vessels.
Stronger teeth and bones
Two tablespoons of chia seeds provide about 13% of the daily intake of calcium, the element responsible for healthy bones and teeth. A good ally against osteoporosis, chia water is also an excellent option for people with lactose intolerance.
An important source of protein
Playing an essential role in the diet of humans, proteins contribute to cell renewal as well as tissue formation. And if you're following a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle and looking to include more plant-based protein on your menu, don't hesitate to bet on a good cup of chia water!
Antioxidants for skin nourished from within
There are many studies indicating that beauty comes from the plate, and with good reason! Eating healthy and balanced helps us enjoy good health inside and out. And in this context, the antioxidants contained in chia prevent the formation of free radicals that promote the aging of skin cells. Consuming these seeds therefore nourishes the skin from the inside and keeps it healthy and young.
Good sleep
Do you need to optimize your sleep? So bet on chia seeds whose contribution in tryptophan (the acid that produces sleep hormones: serotonin and melatonin) allows you to relax and sleep better.
