• Mini white or orange pumpkins will do the trick as white will work best for gold paint, while orange will work best for black.
• Black and gold artisanal paint (preferably glossy).

Tools

• a sharp knife
• 2 brushes (one for each paint color)
• newspaper or scrap paper to paint
• a small palette for painting

Instructions

1. Rinse all the pumpkins and dry completely with a paper towel.
2. Using a large, sharp knife, cut off the tops of the pumpkins starting about an inch deep. Try to make sure the cut is even so that the top can properly fit the pumpkin.
3. Hollow out the inside with a small spoon and discard the contents.
4. Start painting the outside of each pumpkin in the color of your choice. Paint everything, including the stem and the flat surface of the bottom half of the pumpkin. You will need to apply about 3 coats of each paint color, letting it dry for at least 30 minutes to an hour in between, + touch-ups. This part takes the most time.

If you plan to use for miniature vases, wait for the paint to dry completely and then you can fill each pumpkin with a small amount of water.

Keep in mind that once the pumpkins are opened, they will only stay fresh for a few days. So do the DIY at most 2 days before Halloween.
