In times of confinement, the fashion is to dress comfortably indoors. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, homewear, also known as indoor clothing, has been in the spotlight. Another strong trend that is becoming more and more prominent in the daily lives of French women is undoubtedly the one inspired by the “Free the nipple” movement, literally “Free the nipple”. For feminist conviction or for the sake of comfort, the idea of no longer wearing a bra makes women crack! Observed during the first confinement, the fashion that was thought to be ephemeral seems to gain momentum during the reconfinement. So, what are the reasons that can push you to adopt it? Compressed breasts, difficulty finding the right size, underwiring that surrounds the bust, uncomfortable suspenders leaving marks on the skin… the list is quite long and convincing!
No longer wearing a bra: an unexpected fashion effect of confinement or a real desire?

"Free the breasts!" "Or" Free the nipple! Are you familiar with these slogans? And for good reason ! Since 2017, we have heard many women chant them, either in the street or on social networks. After the first confinement in 2020, the liberation of the breasts finally ended up being democratized via the #NoBraChallenge. So, will this new habit become widespread? What will happen if we extend the experiment during the reconfinement? Will the bra be the corset of the 21st century, a useless piece that should be got rid of? Nothing is less sure. Lingerie sales figures, like the entire clothing industry, are down!
The history and evolution of the bra

Invented in 1889, the bra was considered a big step forward. Its reconsideration, however, took place in stages. During the 60s of the last century, there was a demonstration of American feminists in which women burned many bras. In the 70s, the girls bathed with open breasts on the beaches in France while the stars wore the blazer jacket next to the skin. A few decades later, we see the invention of the “push-up” model, which has become a formatting tool. It is therefore essential to make the breasts rounder, taller and in line with the aesthetic expectations of society.

Despite the return to more normal living conditions during the summer of 2020, the amateurs of “no bra trend” are just as numerous as during the first confinement. The explanation? They drop the bra for a matter of comfort, but also to reclaim their breasts and their body. So imagine what a relief it can be to walk around without a bra or ribcage straps!

While young people are trying more and more "no bra", for ladies with generous breasts and slightly drooping, the bra remains a necessity. Those who abandoned him complained of relaxed skin, stretch marks, and back pain. However, in our opinion, the main obstacle to the adoption of the trend in question is neither physical nor aesthetic. It's rather social. Unfortunately, not putting a bra under your t-shirt is frowned upon in today's society. This is why women who show their nipples are sometimes victims of sexual harassment. That said, this new form of freedom also aims to make visible the diversity of breast shapes and sizes so that the female population finally accepts the breast as it is!
The health benefits of not wearing a bra

After the launch of feminist initiatives such as "Free the nipple" and #NoBraChallenge, a good number of studies come to question the adoption of the bra. Specialists claim that, left free, the breasts close thanks to the movement and natural strengthening of muscle tissue. More comfortable without a bra, young people also adopt a better posture and avoid back pain. Whether warned or not, many “no bra” lovers confirm the physical benefits that the trend in question offers.
